Our story
Born from the highlands of Madagascar
Every hat. Every bag. Every charm.
Made by hand, in Antananarivo.
Hiranja was born from a simple conviction: beautiful things should be made by skilled hands, with materials that come from the earth. Our raffia accessories are woven by artisans based in and around Antananarivo, Madagascar's capital — people whose expertise has been passed down through generations, and whose craft we are proud to bring to the world.

Raphia farinifera — Madagascar's gift
The raffia palm grows wild across the humid regions of Madagascar. Its long, supple leaves are harvested by hand, then dried in the sun for days until they reach the perfect texture — light, resilient, and ready to be transformed. No synthetic material comes close to its natural warmth and durability.
Antananarivo's master weavers
In the workshops of Antananarivo, skilled artisans transform raw raffia into refined accessories. Each piece takes hours of careful handwork — no machines, no shortcuts. These craftswomen and craftsmen are the heart of Hiranja. Every purchase directly supports their livelihoods and helps preserve a tradition that defines Malagasy identity.

The crochet technique
Hiranja pieces are crafted using a traditional crochet method — each strand of raffia is threaded by hand using a fine hook, row by row, until the shape emerges. It requires patience, precision, and years of practice. The result is a structure that is at once flexible and firm, light to wear yet built to last for years.
From workshop to your hands
Once woven, each piece is shaped, trimmed, and inspected before leaving the workshop. We work only with artisans who share our standards — no compromises on quality, no mass production. When your hat or bag arrives, it carries the energy of the person who made it. That's not a cliché. That's what handmade means.
